This work is the result of a study conducted at the Department of Human Resources Government of the city of Campinas do Sul / RS. The theme addresses the competency management: a new way to work with the management of people and organizations. The main objective was to present the most relevant aspects for the implementation of management skills in the Human Resources Department of City South Campinas Municipality, RS, for it carried out a diagnosis in terms of operation of people management processes, structuring sectors, assignment of duties, perceptions of the leaders on the competence of management. The study is characterized by an exploratory-descriptive qualitative research that had as a research strategy case study. Among the results, you can present the main aspects for the implementation of competency management at City Hall and found that although most leaders ignore the significance of the management, they show flexible as to give autonomy to their subordinates, a fact what it is essential for the implementation of this form of management. The Municipality of Campinas do Sul, RS, specifically the Department of Human Resources seems headed for an increasingly efficient and effective management.
