The following study has as purpose to investigate the professor, aiming at
contextualizing the teaching formation of such professional throughout his university
teaching path. For such, professors at Public Teaching Institutions were approached.
The main objective was to investigate, through imaginary meaningful knowledge
revealed by the professor in his life histories, his history, his present and the
perspective in performing his function. This way, the problem was delimited like that:
what meanings has the professor gone through along his personal and professional
life, to make possible the development of his function? In order to conduct this
research the used instrument was a questionnaire, the biographic method and the
narrative interview of the life history, through document analysis, oral and written
autobiographic testimonials, taking into account that this method enabled to listen to
the professors on his professional life through a qualitative approach. This research
was based on 4 (four) professors, which worries surrounded the recovering of the
teaching and the formation of the professor within the Public Teaching Institutions, as
well as the professor formation history, and its narratives, aiming at recognizing in the
professors the real dimension of their profession. This way, aware that those are tiny
particles of a wider reflection, it was concluded that the valorization of the life paths of
adults constituted new researching proposals in the last years all over the world, the
singularity that each professor meant to be in his profession, attempting to make
possible his work before the demand of the third millennium with globalization, and
because of that, the information and communication speed through computer, that
the active professors are professionals who like what they do, the university is meant
to be an environment for development and challenge.
