Recently the Rio Grande do Sul was surprised by the greatest tragedy in its history, the Kiss Nightclub fire, which killed 242 people and has become the second largest in the country's history. On occasion occurred inhalation of toxic fumes which contained particles of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Numerous signs and symptoms may develop after inhaling smoke. Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath, hoarseness, headache and behavioral changes. Thus the present study aimed to delineate the epidemiological profile and analyze the respiratory symptoms reported by individuals who inhaled toxic fumes in the Fire Kiss Nightclub, Santa Maria, RS. The sample consisted of 589 patients who completed the questionnaire host the Integrated Center for Attention to Victims of Accidents in the retrospective period from February to August 2013 Survivors of the tragedy of the club basically college Kiss, 288 (48.9%) had or were attending college, mostly male, 334 (56.7%), young with mean age of 27.8 ± 10.2. The main signs and symptoms related to inhalation injury, the most prevalent were the burning sensation in the throat (47.7%) followed by hoarseness (35.0%), lacrimajamento (33.6%), runny nose (32.4%) eye irritation (30.7%) and the presence of soot (24.1%). Among the respiratory signs and symptoms The most reported were cough (48.7%), fatigue (39.9%) and dyspnea (43.6%). Among the comorbidities identified rhinitis / sinusitis (50%) was the most prevalent. This study enabled us to know the individuals who inhaled toxic fumes during fire Kiss Nightclub, noting the major signs and acute respiratory symptoms after the incident.
