Resumen
Nationally, it turns out that the murder disproportionately affects certain population groups. Thus, through a critical theoretical framework, and an interdisciplinary perspective held with authors of law and sociology, this study sought to reconcile deductive and inductive character approaches to satisfactory resolution of the research problem. The first was used to identify if the victims of homicides in Santa Maria/RS, in the period between the years 2010 to 2014 had significantly recurring characteristics in total homicide cases considering sex, age and information of criminal cases answered by them before they die. On the other hand, the inductive approach allowed us to analyze if people endowed with certain characteristics, physical and personal, tend to be killed by homicide more often in this city. The primary sources used were the news of a local newspaper and criminal cases. Thus, it was found that the murder victims were mostly men (89%), ranging in age group 15-49 years (92%) and had been formally accused for committing unlawful conduct (84.43% ), or possess some degree of criminality, allowing to see that the people possessing these characteristics are more likely to be victims of homicide in this city.
