The manager of a Basic Health Unit is committed to the organization, users and the assessments and the results of programmed actions. Nurses on the front lines need to be motivated and prepared for several changes in the work process to provide higher quality service to the user. The present study deals with a literature and aims to discuss the management of nurses in primary health care networks. The search for scientific literature to the topic under study was performed in the following collections: the Latin American and Caribbean Health (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), which were selected publications between 2000 and 2010. It is believed that the nurse is skilled to play the role of manager in primary care networks with participation where the purpose is the union of collective effort, to establish a new organizational reality aligned with best practices in the provision of comprehensive care population in an ethical, humane and dignified.
