With the growth and expansion of technology there has also been a great impact in the way we communicate and transmit information. The search for portability, for example, led to the emergence of technologies for wireless transmission, through radiofrequency waves and, with the emergence of LEDs, has been reaching up to the visible light spectrum. LEDs are rapidly replacing traditional lighting fixtures and using them for Visible Light Communication (VLC) is a very strong trend because of its unique feature of high switching rate. This work presents the general concepts and characteristics of communication systems as well as the development of a prototype with the basic characteristics necessary for the transmission of data via visible light using Variable Pulse Position Modulation (VPPM).
