OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this article is to depict the anatomic pathways along which
transphrenic spread of diseases and entities can disseminate.
CONCLUSION. The abdomen and thorax form a continuum on which the diaphragm is
an important but incomplete barrier to disease migration.
