The Colombian economy is characterized by showing activity supported in companies where SMEs and micro-enterprises account for 90% of all firms in the country and generate 63% of national employment and 53% of gross production in industries such as commercial and services. Therefore, it is truly important to investigate further about their administrative and operational processes because the understanding of these processes may imply new ways to reach optimal operation and good performance, in terms of competitiveness, of Colombian companies both nationally and internationally (Jaramillo Naranjo, 2003). The more knowledge about MSMEs operations we are able to provide, the more useful the academic community can be to achieve a smoothly running of the Colombian business sector
