Mantilla Mancilla, María Fernanda
Since 1995, significant changes have emerged in Colombian retail, because of the entrance of foreign investment from Europe, United States, Mexico, Brazil and Chile. As a result, there has been mergers, acquisitions and new formats enter the country, which has incited a transformation and evolution in the retail in country. In addition, as the retail has evolved, consumer behavior in the chains has also changed, influenced mainly by the entry of a model created in Europe, called discounters. D1, ARA and Justo&Bueno are the supermarkets chains under the hard discount model in Colombia, which are generating changes in the consumption of Colombian households, mainly in categories such as liquid milks, toilet paper and household care basket products, as bleachers and detergents. Being the latter, the category that has had the main impact in the last 2 years, in terms of migration of purchasing channels and changes in brand preferences. For this reason, in this research it is proposed to identify whether there have been changes in purchasing behaviors for the category of powdered detergents because of the entry of formats of discounters in the country.
