Resumen
OBJECTIVEThis study describes percentiles for 4x10 m shuttle runs in a population of school children between 9 and 17 years old in Bogotá, Colombia belonging to the FUPRECOL Study. - METHODThis was a cross - sectional study of 2502 boys and 3349 girls (53, 0%), between 9 and 17 years old belonging to 24 public schools in Bogotá, Colombia. Speed/Agility was evaluated for the 4x10 m shuttle run ( motor component of the FRUPECOL test battery). Percentiles ( P3, P10, P25, P50, P75, P90 and P97) and centile curves were calculated using the LMS method according to the age and gender. A comparison was made between the values of the Speed/Agility observed against International Studies. - RESULTSThe average age of the participants was 12, 7 (2, 4) years old. Comparing for gender, boys had better performance in the 4x10 m shuttle run than girls. For boys, the P50 oscillates between 11, 9 sec and 13, 1 sec, meanwhile girls oscillate between 14, 3 sec and 15, 0 sec. Comparing the results of this study, by groups of age and gender, with international works, the P50 was greater than results obtained in Spain, Portugal and other Europe wide study. The same trend was observed when comparing average and standard deviation with school children from Argentina, France and other Europe wide study. - CONCLUSIONSPercentiles of the 4x10 m shuttle run were presented by age and gender. These values can be used to evaluate aptitude levels of students so as to detect students whose physical condition levels are below a healthy minimum.
