Resumen
Introduction: There is no local knowledge (Latin America or Colombia) of the real problem of the prevalence of secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT2) in patients on dialysis that is a growing population worldwide due to the increase in the life expectancy of patients with chronic diseases. . HPT2 has been indirectly associated with worse survival outcomes in patients on dialysis due to the mediation of hyperphosphatemia, extra osseous calcifications and poor pain management with consequences of hospitalizations and mortality. The treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism implies high costs for health systems. The high cost of medications related to secondary hyperparathyroidism implies a high responsibility in its judicious and adequate prescription, so, it is important to see the prevalence of the pathology to establish realistic measures of prescription control. Objective: To know the prevalence of HPT2 in patients older than 18 years with chronic kidney disease 5 in dialysis therapies in RTS Colombia in 2016Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in which the prevalence prevalence of secondary hyperparathyroidism was evaluated in patients older than 18 years with Chronic Renal Disease 5 in dialysis therapy in RTS in any of the live modalities as of October 31, 2016. Results: A total of 9880 patients were evaluated, with a slightly higher prevalence in women (50. 59%), with a mean age of 59. 2 years and a higher proportion of patients on hemodialysis (58. 18%). PTHi> 300pg / ml was found in 4842 (49%) patients, with significant differences in gender, age, region of the country and dialysis modality Conclusions: The prevalence of hyperparathyroidism in Colombia is 49%, which is related to that described in several countries
