This paper explains the United States’ foreign policy construction toward Nicaragua and its incidence in the Somoza´s regime (1936 – 1979). The United States’ foreign policy construction would be analyze according to Fareed Zakaria´s theory, which takes into account domestic and systemic factors. Also according to Giulio Gallarotti´s postulates it would be identify the incidence of the United States’ foreign policy in the Somoza´s regime. It would be use his International Organization´s System Failures theory, featuring three key elements: the National Guard strengthening; the accumulation of economic profits between the Somoza family, the emergent elites and the United States´ entrepreneurs; and the reasons behind a hostile Nicaraguan foreign policy toward its neighbors.
