Resumen
Normally, a country´s development has been explained from a traditional perspective in terms of its economic growth, taking into account macroeconomic indicators such as its GDP, level of inflation, unemployment, etc. Relatively little attention has focused on explaining the importance that the human resource and leadership process represent to its development. By taking these aspects into account, this paper seeks to understand the success of Japan´s expo-led growth between 1960 and 1980. Therefore, it argues that the incorporation of transformational-transactional leadership and its culture´s elements as Confucianism and Buddhism, give a non-economicist perspective to the success of Japan´s model of development as part of the university-industry-state triad. This will be achieved by realizing a qualitative analysis focused on the international political economy and the leadership process studied from various disciplines such as administration, sociology and psychology.
