Resumen
This Study Case seeks to explain which are the possible implications and influence of the Nicaragua Canal in the West Caribbean geography, economy and foreign policy. This investigation will argue that the building and operation of this canal will influence the geopolitics of the region at long-term, due to the possibility of competition between two interoceanic canals (Panama and Nicaragua) nonexistent until now, which can affect the availability of natural resources throughout this sub-region, and also, strengthen the Asian presence in Latin America. However, the consequences of this canal cannot be determined specifically. In order to prove what has been discussed, a revision of the building and operation of the Panama Canal, as well as of the Nicaragua Canal project will be held, in order to give possible future scenarios for the West Caribbean region, based on a prospective study.
