RATIONALE Colon polyps are an important risks factor for the development of neoplasia, early identification, removal and histologic classification is essential to detect the cure and survival.
OBJETIVES Describe resected colon polyps characteristics in patients in a third level hospital of Cundinamarca. METHODS: Retrospective and descriptive study type number of cases, which contained patients over 18 years who had resected polyps and who were submitted to a colonoscopy during the period 2009 to 2011.
MAIN RESULTS During the study period 3267 colonoscopy procedures were performed. Patients who hadn’t polyps or pathological reports and patients who hadn’t the piece for the histology were excluded. 381 patients with polyps were analyzed, who were included on the final analysis. The main location of the polyps was: rectum and sigmoid that represents 66%. Multiple polyposis were identified in 2,9%. The hyperplasic polyps were the most diagnosed followed by tubular adenomas. The study showed that 2 of the patients undergoing to the multiple resection had cancer. The indications to practice the colonoscopy which aren’t clearly approved but which have been identified and resected the polyps are more than 30%.
CONCLUSIONS Most of patients were women. Rectal bleeding still being the main indication to perform a colonoscopy. The hyperplasic polyps followed by the adenomas are the main pathology discover.
