Resumen
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of computer assisted surgery versus the conventional technique regarding the orientation of the “acetabular” cup in the hip total arthroplastia. Materials and Methods: Descriptive study comparing two cohorts. The patients that have undergone complete hip replacement at the Santa Clara hospital between August 2008 and December 2009 will be evaluated, establishing the angle of “acetabular” inclination and “acetabular” anteversion according to the measurements established in the conventional post-surgery X-Rays. Results: No significant statistical differences were found during the comparison of the average scores regarding “acetabular” inclination and “acetabular” anteversion when performing either the traditional surgery or the surgery using computer navigation. Conclussions: The use of a navigational computer for the hip replacement surgery is especially useful for orthopedists that under training and for those cases where the “acetabular” components can guarantee long term results.
