Resumen
The objective of this monograph is to analyze the reach of the presence of illegal
armed groups as determining elements in the origin of a regional security
subcomplex among the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.
It seeks to explain how an ethnic conflict translates into the presence of insurgent
groups, and in turn, establishes an interdependent threat among the political
leaders of these countries, which brings us to the security subcomplex
phenomenon. To achieve this, the theoretical postulates of Barry Buzan, namely
Regional Security Complexes, are relevant, because they identify the way they are
structured, located and how they have evolved as units of analysis. Finally, this
analysis is complemented by the method of study proposed by Jeremy M.
Weinstein, to understand why and for what insurgent groups are created.
