dc.description.abstract | C- reactive protein is the most studied and validated vascular inflammation marker until now. CRP levels can predict de risk of cardiovascular disease.
There is a program called “salud integral para la mujer” at fundación cardio-infantil were women are assessed for cardiovascular risk.
We measure there the CRP levels between October 2007 and May 2009 and assessed the correlation between the level of cardiovascular risk according to the Framingham score and levels of CRP.
Objective: to establish the correlation between levels of CRP and the cardiovascular risk score.
Results: mean age was 48 (18-98 years). 62 patients with high blood pressure (40,7%). 19 patients with impaired fasting glucose levels (12%). There is 83% of the patients with abnormalities in the lipid profile (127 patients). 78 patients had overweight or obesity. The 87% of population has at least one cardiovascular risk factor.
Discussion and conclusions: There is a high prevalence of cardiovascular risk factor in this population, among which, abnormalities in the lipid profile is the most frequent. Nevertheless, there is no correlation between PCR levels and cardiovascular risk score according to the Framingham score.
The medical data available about CRP and the relationship with cardiovascular risk is different from the results in this investigation. | |
