Resumen
INTRODUCTION: Superficial venous insufficiency can cause deep venous insufficiency, so the surgical management can improve the deep failure surface. In our environment is not customary to perform surgery patients with mixed venous insufficiency in the belief of exacerbating the disease or lead to complications. METHODOLOGY: We performed a retrospective study, taking mixed venous insufficiency patients, between 2006 and 2010, comparing hemodynamics by duplex, and clinical parameters, according to the CEAP classification in patients undergoing surgery and in patients who received conservative medical management. RESULTS: There were 45 patients, 65% to 35% surgical and medical management, with comparable demographic characteristics and comorbidities. No difference in the number of complications (p = 0.64), there was improvement in 77% of patients in the surgical group in hemodynamic parameters and no patients in the medical management group, and improvement of 83 active ulcers % and 33% respectively. DISCUSSION: Our study is a first approach to research in patients with this disease in our country who are brought to surgical management. These results suggest a possible benefit in terms of deep venous hemodynamics and clinical characteristics, especially when there are active ulcer, when patients with venous insufficiency are carried mixed surgical management. However, further studies are required to demonstrate these results in our population.
