This project is a study of the main characteristics of the sub sectors of cottonproduction in India and Colombia. Despite the absence of any trade agreement in thematter between the two countries, the hypothesis that both countries can sign a treaty ofthis kind is attractive. In this sense, the characteristics of the cultivation, production andmarketing of India and Colombia, offers a panorama that invites to reflect over thebenefits and drawbacks for the cotton sub sector, facing the eventual signing of a FreeTrade Agreement. This paper details the different elements of each production process, the marketingstrategies and the government policies of each country in relation to the cotton cultivation. This work is also focused on the present of the cotton sub sector in Colombia and Indiain terms of exports and imports. Finally, a number of strategies are proposed to offset thedisadvantages that could arise, as in turn show the benefits would also place the policiesto be implemented.
