The interest of this case study is to analyze the role played by the social networks in the campaign to the parliament of the Movement 5 Stars in Italy. This research explains how the introduction of new technologies in the political field has set a new cultural order and has facilitated the access of the citizens to the participation in the political life. Starting from the follow up to the management that the Movement gave to the social networks in the campaign, the perception of the development of the networks of authors like Ivoskus and Castells and the content analysis of the most important media in Italy, the research flows to identify which were the characteristics that enabled a communication mechanism, such as social networks, became a tool of political participation.
