Resumen
The news frame analysis has become a basic tool to understand the cognitive structures that construct social reality in its many facets. The objective of this research is to reveal the basic frames and generic frames that define the treatment of rare diseases in the Spanish press. The content analysis of 216 news items about rare diseases published in El País, El Mundo and ABC from August 2010 to September 2012 has been determined to a large extent the problem is presented as a complex social reality rather than how a disease more. Human interest based on personalization of information is the most important generic framing. These results may contribute to greater social visibility of the Rare Diseases.
