Resumen
Objective: to characterize sport and recreational physical conditions of Distrital Educational
Institutions in Engativa, applying the format to audit Institutional sport and recreational
spaces (FAERDEI). Methodology: transversal descriptive study in five educational
institutions. It was taken into account the information about number of students, service time
or functioning, and inventory of the school indoor and outdoor sport and recreational spaces
(ERDE). Also, those spaces were measured in square meters auditing during recess
accessibility, functionality and contaminants. Results: the number of students found was
2415 and, on average, the time of service was forty years with two of the structures recently
emodeled. There are 5774 square meters of ERDE for use during recess. Every institution
has an ERDE in compliance with 15% of the spaces required by FAERDEI and 12% of the
space is used during recess. The remodeled institutions have less amount of square meters
per student. Conclusion: the space audit determine that the institutions do not have the
necessary conditions to promote students’ physical and recreational activity. The minimums
required by the Colombian technical standards according to Educational Equipment Master
Plan (PMEE) are not met and it is recommended to revise the characteristics for ERDE as
well as to validate the use given to these spaces during recess in institutions, particularly,
Primary students, in order to identify pros and cons in the promotion of students’ physical
activity.
