Resumen
The world is showing a process of globalization, which has prompted states to interact, generating significant changes in economic, cultural, political and social field. One consequence of this is the initiative of negotiating the Colombo – Canadian Free Trade Agreement, which also reflects a new stage of the process of economic liberalization initiated in Colombia for more than a decade. The Colombo – Canadian FTA materialize the first bilateral initiative between the two countries, focusing on free trade negotiations, nevertheless, the two states had already had a history of multilateral trade negotiations. Free Trade Negotiations between these countries, took place in five negotiating rounds held since June 2007 to July 2008. For the agricultural sector specifically, the negotiations were very productive, gaining the best results against the offensives proposals from both Canada and Colombia. Facing the entrance into force of Colombo – Canadian FTA, different positions were observed by representatives of civil society as NGOs, the academy, among others, who completely rejected the agreement, saying in particular the issue of internal armed conflict in Colombia, the violation of Human Rights, the absence of guarantees for the rights of workers and unions, among other social issues.
