As mulheres no reinado de Momo: lugares e condições femininas no carnaval de Porto Alegre (1869-1885)

Abstract

Mulheres e carnaval: este é o tema tratado nesta dissertação. Porto Alegre, por volta do último quartel do século XIX, passa a sofrer uma transformação no que se refere a sua maneira de render louvores ao deus Momo: surgiam as sociedades carnavalescas – Esmeralda e Venezianos; até então a data era comemorada sob a forma do entrudo, na qual as mulheres tinham ativa participação. Desta forma, este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a participação das mulheres no carnaval de Porto Alegre, de 1869 a 1885, apontando para os diferentes lugares e condições que elas ocuparam nestes festejos.

Women and carnival: this is the topic this dissertation. Porto Alegre, around the last quarter of the nineteenth century, is undergoing a transformation with regard to their way of rendering praise to God Momo: arose carnival companies - Emeralda and Venezianos; until then the date was celebrated in the form of entrudo, in which women had active participation. Thus, this paper aims to examine the participation of women in carnival of Porto Alegre, from 1869 to 1885, pointing to the different places and conditions which they occupied in these celebrations.
