(2002) o la OCDE (2005, 2006). La investigación sobre innovación turística es incipiente y escasa (Monfort, 2009;
9-33 mrdrivero@gmail.com marh@uma.ve In the new economic context, innovation has taken on a growing role in the competitiveness of the tourist company,
incorporated in the strategies of companies and tourism destinations and on the agenda of organizations like UNWTO (2002) and
OCDE (2006). Research on tourism innovation is emerging and low (Monfort, 2009; Hjalager, 2010), remain unexplored critical
issues related to the distinctive nature of tourism, particularly those inherent in the attachment of territory and its infl
uence on innovation capabilities in the enterprises. Therefore, this research approaches to assess the elements
and skills that explain the development of innovative behavior in the tourism business in the new socio-economic environment.
Specifi cally, from the union of intangible capital approach to social capital, this research proposes the construct Social
Capital Territory (CST), which refl ects the value to the companyof its relations with the agents of the territory,
whether competitors, suppliers, institutions and community organizations and discusses the arguments of their infl uence on
human capital, technological-organizational capital and in the innovative behavior of tourism companies.
