The instability in the international financial markets determined the emergence of new fronts in the debate concerning the international financial architecture. One of these fronts is the problem of sovereign, debt restructuring. There are, at least, two different perspectives: the market-oriented view emphasizes the maintenance of the contractual autonomy among market participants, with or without "contractual innovations"; the official view involve the creation of new institutions, in a statutory approach. This paper analyzes the current debate about sovereign debt restructuring.A instabilidade nos mercados financeiros internacionais determinou a emergência de novas frentes no debate sobre arquitetura financeira internacional. Uma destas frentes é problema da reestruturação de dividas soberanas. Há, pelo menos, duas perspectivas distintas: a visão market-oriented enfatiza a manutenção da autonomia dos contratos entre os participantes dos mercados, com ou sem inovações contratuais; a visão oficial envolve a criação de novas instituições, em uma abordagem mais institucionalizada. Este trabalho analisa o debate corrente em torno da reestruturação de dívidas soberanas.
