dc.descriptionLa lesión del ligamento lateral externo de la articulación del tobillo es muy frecuente. Para evaluar, hacer el diagnóstico y tratar con eficacia esta lesión, es necesario comprender completamente la inserción, las dimensiones, así como el área del ligamento lateral en estudio. En este reporte se describe una investigación que consistió en disecar al azar 50 piezas de tobillos y pies provenientes de cadáveres adultos del sexo masculino, en los cuales se procedió a determinar la dirección, puntos de inserción y dimensiones (anchura y longitud), estas últimas por medición directa mediante la utilización de un calibrador (Vernier). Igualmente se establecieron las diferencias anatomo-radiológicas de los puntos de inserción y el área que ocupa el ligamento en estudio, mediante la tinción de los mismos con tintura de plata. Los resultados obtenidos son de gran utilidad para el diagnóstico y manejo de pacientes afectados por lesiones a nivel de la articulación del tobillo. Los estudios radiológicos son particularmente relevantes en el diagnóstico presuntivo de lesión ligamentaria, especialmente cuando hay evidencia de fractura.

dc.descriptionThe injury of the external lateral ligament of the ankle articulation is highly frequent. To diagnose and treat with efficacy this type of lesions it is necessary to completely understand the anatomical insertion, dimensions, as well as the area of the lateral ligament under study. Here we report a descriptive research that consisted of dissecting at random 50 pieces of ankles and feet obtained from adult corpse of masculine sex. In these pieces, we determined the direction, points of insertion and dimensions (length and width), by direct measure using a caliper (Vernier). In addition, the anatomic radiological differences between the insertion points and the area occupied by the ligament under study were established by means of silver dye stain. The results obtained, particularly from the radiological studies, are very useful for the diagnosis and management of patients afflicted with ligament lesions at the ankle joint level, especially when a fracture is involved.
