In this work, the author discusses the recent progress on the comprehension of epigenetic regulation by stress during early life and adulthood, in the limbic circuits of the brain, and the way in which those mechanisms may contribute to the susceptibility against the recovery capacity of stress-related disorders and their reversal through antidepressant treatments. There is a description of the latest advances regarding the epigenetic regulation induced by stress, and finally, the action of the L-carnitine as epigenetic modulator is described.
