Traditional Crop Breeding Practices: An Historical Review to Serve as a Baseline for Assessing The Role of Modern Biotechnology

Abstract

The study, prepared by a panel of national experts followin gdiscussions in Paris on 9-10 Noviembre 1991, presents current and traditional mechanisms for genetically modifying plants in order to develop new varieties. It also offers a brief discussion of the paths by which the products of plant breeding programmes enter production systems and current commercialisation channels in OECD countries.
