THE SPANICH-ARAUCANIAN WORD OF THE PUREN AND LUMACO VALLEY IN THE SIXTEENTH AND SEVENTEENTH CENTURIES

Abstract

This chapter presents a synthesis of the early historical period based on the study of archives in Santiago, Chile, and Seville, Spain, which refer to the Purén–Lumaco region during the sixteenth and the early seventeenth centuries. This region was only a part, although a very important one, of a larger, complex indigenous system called the Estado.
