The present investigation Type I: "Use of oral ciprofloxacin in the outpatient National Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (HNERM)- EsSalud, Lima-Peru 2008" is a descriptive, retrospective and cross-section whose overall objective is to determine the characteristics of Ciprofloxacin 500mg oral use in the outpatient HNERM. The study population consisted of patients with prescription of Ciprofloxacin 500mg orally treated at the outpatient service from January 01, 2008 to December 31, 2008. Data were extracted from the database management system of the Hospital outpatient pharmacies and prescriptions of patients attending the outpatient clinic. The monthly consumption of 500 mg oral ciprofloxacin in the outpatient service of HNERM was higher in October with 10.62%. The annual consumption of Ciprofloxacin 500mg orally in the outpatient service of HERM in DDD/1000 persons / day was 38.8. The annual consumption of Ciprofloxacin 500mg of oral outpatient HERM in DDD/1000 persons / day for respiratory medicine in 1555 was followed by the urology clinic with 9.74. The percentage of prescriptions for Ciprofloxacin 500mg by age group was higher in the group ranging from 50-59 years with 23.9%. The pathologies most prescribed oral Ciprofloxacin 500mg were: lower respiratory tract infections (24.6%), urinary tract infections (23.2), skin infections and soft tissue (15%). Finally 75% of prescriptions for oral 500mg ciprofloxacin in the outpatient treatment of ERMH were appropriate while 25% of these were not adequate.El presente Trabajo de Investigación Tipo I: “Uso del Ciprofloxacino oral en los consultorios externos del Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins – EsSalud, Lima-Perú 2008”, es un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y de corte transversal cuyo Objetivo General es Determinar las características de uso del Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral en los consultorios externos del Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins. La población de estudio estuvo constituido por los pacientes con prescripción de Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral atendidos en los consultorios externos a partir del 01 de Enero del 2008 al 31 de Diciembre del 2008. Los datos fueron extraídos de la base de datos del Sistema de Gestión Hospitalaria de las farmacias de consulta externa y de las recetas de los pacientes atendidos en los consultorios externos. El consumo mensual de Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral en los consultorios externos del HNERM, fue mayor en el mes de octubre con 10.62%. El consumo anual de Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral en los consultorios externos del HNERM, en DDD/1000 habitantes –día fue de 38.8. El consumo anual de Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral por consultorios externos del HNERM, en DDD/1000 habitantes–día fué para neumología con 15.55, seguido del consultorio de urología con 9,74. El porcentaje de prescripciones de Ciprofloxacino 500mg según grupo etáreo fue mayor en el grupo comprendido entre 50-59 años con 23.9%. Las patologías de mayor prescripción de Ciprofloxacino 500mg oral fueron: Infecciones del tracto respiratorio inferior (24.6%), Infecciones del tracto urinario (23.2), infecciones de piel y tejidos blandos (15%). Finalmente el 75% las de prescripciones de ciprofloxacino 500mg oral en los consultorios externos del HNERM tuvieron tratamiento adecuado, mientras que el 25% de estas no fueron adecuadas.
