This work aimed to investigate the skin cancer theme and its relation with the teaching of biology within the thematic cell division and how it can contribute to the teaching-learning process of EJA students of the state school of the municipality of Pombos, Since most of the EJA students are farmers who are exposed to the sun daily. So the risk of developing cancer is much higher in people who have taken too much sun throughout their lives without adequate protection. This is due to the fact that unprotected sun exposure harms the skin, causing cellular changes that can lead to cancer. Therefore, once we have sensitized students to the causes of cancer and its prevention, we can develop changes in habits. In view of this, we can consider Scientific Literacy as an additional possibility to seek a differentiated educational form that assists in the educational process and in the formation of the citizens, making them understand different and distinct natural phenomena and their relation With everyday life. Therefore, the following research has proposed to investigate how this theme can be worked out if it were structured within the perspective of Scientific Literacy. We developed and applied a didactic sequence in the perspective of contextualizing students' reality, giving them greater involvement and participation in the process of construction of the scientific knowledge then explored. The aim of this study was to evaluate how the application of a didactic sequence in the skin cancer issue contributes to the understanding and possible change of habit among students of Public Basic Education in an EJA class, predominantly made up of farmers. The results of the research indicated that the students have a knowledge about the subject, but not so consolidated. Students are aware of the need to wear sunscreen and / or appropriate clothing to reduce the incidence of radiation on your body, but do not do so routinely. It was possible to perceive that many of these students, due to various factors - economic, cultural, ... - permanently expose themselves intensively to the sun without evaluating how dangerous and harmful this is, since they are unaware of the serious consequences of ultraviolet radiation. Health, and can thus promote the appearance of skin cancer. Skin cancer is a disease that is affecting citizens and lack of knowledge is one of the main causes for the onset of this disease. Therefore, it is increasingly necessary to inform the population about this particular topic, since an important way to change living habits is education. In this way, once the student truly understands scientific concepts, giving them meaning and possibility to change their lives, it can take over and modify their practice.
