Resumen
The knowledge regarding the diversity and interaction of Tephritidae and their native hosts is scarce. Thus, this study aimed to characterize the interaction between fruit flies and the host plant Sorocea bonplandii. Therefore, fruits of S. bonplandii were collected in two areas in Southern Brazil and stored in containers until the emergence of the adults. Additionally, the characterization and the germination test between injured and intact fruits were carried out. The most frequent species wad Hexachaeta socialis, followed by Anastrepha sp. and Ceratitis capitata. S. bonplandii was registered for the first time as host of these species. All the emerged parasitoids belonged to Utetes. The infested fruits had holes, depressions and an inner tunnel prior to complete consumption of the seed The germination test indicated low germination of the injured seeds. Polygyny for the defense of resources, as a reproductive strategy of H. socialis and the oviposition behavior are described for the first time. 41 10 686 690
