Possíveis ocorrências de instabilidade também são investigadas Abstract: This work studies the dynamical behavior of a belt-tensioner pulley, constructed with a nonli-near spring and submitted to dry-friction on the contact of the pin with an articulated arm. Friction models are addressed, and the Duffing¿s equation is used to model the spring¿s nonlinear behavior. Two mathematical models of the belt-tensioner is presented, one considering the external force caused by the adjacent belt spans, and other considering the external force applied directly on the tensioner. The influences of friction and pre-load moment are numerically addressed. The stick-slip behavior of the system is also studied. It is proposed a modification on Kang¿s friction model in order to describe friction asymmetry. The combination of friction asymmetry and nonlinear-spring is addressed. It is seem that the varying normal load, the friction asymmetry and the pre-load moment can change the form that the stick-slip phenomenon occurs. Finally, a method is presented tomap the dynamical behavior of the belt-tensioner. Possible instability conditions are investigated Mestrado Mecanica dos Sólidos e Projeto Mecanico Mestre em Engenharia Mecânica CNPQ
