As a social field, it is marked by a diversity of views and perspectives that seek legitimacy of his speeches among others. Environmental education attracts teachers and coordinators who see sense in environmental discussion as a means to enrich school activities with practical alternatives to traditionally held in classroom lessons. The school, in turn, is a historically constituted institution and is inserted in a society that expects the school institution fulfills certain functions. Teachers are responsible for carrying forward the environmental education activities, in direct contact with the other actors, and especially with students. There is a set of images and representations of environmental education that reach teachers and form their notions about what it is, how it should be done, to what purpose is oriented, etc. Social representations that teachers construct and reconstruct make up their references to action in reality. So, they are objectified in the world through various forms and educational resources that are around the interface between environmental education and school. Thus, what the social representations of teachers on environmental education? To answer this question, we conducted a study with the aim to recognize and discuss the social representations of environmental education among a group of teachers from a state school. At first there is the presentation of the currents that form inside the field of environmental education, distinguishing them. Following are some state of the art research in environmental education in order to view some present discussions on aspects related to the concept of critical environmental education, environmental education projects in schools and working with the scale of values ??in teacher training in subjects related to the environmental field, the second field of research Theory of social Representations of Serge Moscovici has composed a reflection on how the set of images, habits, memories, social categories and common inherited places we come together to make the reality as we perceive it . We address the social representations understanding their nature, purposes and its components. From the perspective that teachers are the key players in educational activities, we support the methodological approach of this research in collaborative research Serge Desgagné and constitute a group of eight teachers from the same school that produced reflections on collaborative meetings and through individual interviews. The data were analyzed by an interpretation of the material transcribed the interviews in their entirety and transcript excerpts in which there was debate and reflection in collaborative meetings. The statements were organized into categories created from the analyzed content. Finally, the statements were discussed in the light of the elements of environmental education. The findings point to a naturalistic view of environmental education geared to the presentation of results and preparation of students for their insertion in the labor market. We can understand that the representations of tis group of teachers approaches the definition of a pragmatic environmental education Mestrado Ensino de Ciencias e Matematica Mestre em Ensino de Ciências e Matemática
