This text situates Physical Education as a knowledge that operates with the body education, emphasizing in that education the concept of strength. Although this concept refers fundamentally to physiological and biomechanical elements, we understand that there is a projection of its representation in the area¿s imaginary, composing a hybrid perception of what strength development means. We propose a reflection about the concept of strenght and strong man starting from elements of Friedrich Nietzsche¿s philosophy, contrasting these arguments with the imaginary of strength commonly present in Physical Education. We realize that physical education still seems to design and analyze the phenomena related to the body in a mechanical way, even subservient to social standards of beauty and body build. Thus, thinking about common themes to the area starting from reflections about their values can contribute to conducting an active, and not passive body education. In this way, we still find the concepts of "great health" in Nietzsche and "euexia" among the ancient Greeks, alternatives that seem to indicate education of the strength understood as a volitional energetic disposition inherent and immanent to the bodies, far from a subservience to pre-established standards Mestrado Educação Fisica e Sociedade Mestre em Educação Física 130451/2015-0 CNPq,
