A semiconductor optical amplifier simulator (SOASim), used to analyze in-line optical amplifiers, current-injected spac e switches, and electro-optical regenerators, is presented. The effects of amplitude-modulated injected current in the techniques of feed-forward gain control (FFGC) and pre-impulse-step injected current (PISIC) arc included. Experimental results are in good agreement with simulations. (C) 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
