dc.descriptionThe point-source seismogram from a horizontally stratified acoustic medium can be transformed by a beam filter into the response of a beam that essentially propagates in the vertical direction. This response, which still obeys the wave equation, naturally enhances the near-offset traces, thus providing a better illumination of the region below the source.
