Resumen
Delusion is certainly one of the most important and intriguing phenomena in psychopathology. Knowledge about its causal mechanisms and clinical consequences is still rather insufficient. Lately, emphasis has been laid upon the so-called dimensions of delusion (conviction, extension, bizarreness, disorganization, pression, affective response and action upon delusion). This study attempted to explore these dimensions, as well as the Jaspersian characteristics, in 24 highly delusional patients. Besides, delusional patients (n = 83) were compared to non-delusional ones (n = 111) in terms of demographic, clinical and cognitive variables. A better cognitive performance was found in the delusional group. The abnormal behavior linked to delusion correlated both to affective response and to the degree of conviction. Affective response to delusion and conviction were also associated to each other. 52 3 191 199 Andreasen, N.C., The diagnosis of schizophrenia (1987) Schizoph Bull, 13, pp. 9-16 Appelbaum, P., Robins, P.C., Roth, L.H., Dimensional approach to delusions: Comparison across types and diagnoses (1999) Am J Psychiatry, 156, pp. 1938-1943 Banzato, C.E.M., Assigning things to their proper class: Taxonomic issues and trends in psychiatry (2002) Revista Latino-Americana de Psicopatologia Fundamental, 5, pp. 11-28 Benson, D.F., Stuss, D.T., Frontal lobe influences on delusions: A clinical perspective (1990) Schzophrenia Bulletin, 16, pp. 403-411 Berrios, G.E., (1996) The History of Mental Symptoms, pp. 85-139. , Cambridge University Press Blackwood, H.J., Howard, R.J., Bentall, R.P., Murray, R.M., Cognitive neuropsychiatric models of persecutory delusions (2001) Am J Psychiatry, 158, pp. 527-539 Dalgalarrondo, P., (2000) Psicopatologia e Semiologia Dos Transtornos Mentais, , Porto Alegre: Ed.
