Resumen
Introduction and hypothesis: The authors quantified the nerve fibers in the bladder wall of ovariectomized rats with and without estradiol replacement. Methods: This study was conducted on 40 Wistar rats (3 months old). Group 1: remained intact; Group 2: underwent bilateral ovariectomy, and after 30 days was started on subcutaneous sesame oil replacement (0.2 ml per day) for 90 days; Group 3: sham-operated, and after 30 days was started on subcutaneous sesame oil replacement (0.2 ml per day) for 90 days; Group 4: bilateral ovariectomy, and after 30 days was started on subcutaneous injection of 17β-estradiol (10 μg/kg body weight) for 90 days. S-100 was used to stain nerves myelinized fibers on paraffin rat bladder sections. The G-50 grid system was used to quantitatively analyze the fibers. Conclusion: Long-term estrogen deprivation caused significant changes in bladder innervations, which can be characterized by a decreased number of nerve fibers by 65% (p < 0.001). © The International Urogynecological Association 2009. 20 5 591 595 Eika, B., Salling, L.N., Christensen, L.L., Long-term observation of the detrusor smooth muscle in rats: Its relationship to ovariectomy and estrogen treatment (1990) Urol Res, 18, p. 439 Rodriguez, L.V., Wang, B., Shortliffe, L.M., Structural changes in the bladder walls of pregnant and hormone treated rats: Correlation with bladder dynamics (2004) BJU Int, 94 (9), pp. 1366-1372 Cardozo, L.D., Kelleher, C.J., Sex hormones, the menopause and urinary problems (1995) Gynecol Endocrinol, 9, pp. 75-84 Susset, J.G., Servot-Viguier, D., Lamy, F., Madernas, P., Black, R., Collagen in 155 human bladders (1978) Invest Urol, 16, pp. 204-206 Abrams, P., Blaivas, J.G., Stanton, S.L., Anderson, J.T., The standardization of terminology of lower urinary tract function recommended by the International Continence Society (1990) Int Urogynecol J, 1, p. 45 Jabs, C.F.I., Stanton, S.L., Urge incontinence and detrusor instability (2001) Int Urogynecol J, 12, p. 58 Delesse, M., Procédé mécanique pour déterminer la composition des roches (1848) Ann Mines, 13, pp. 379-385 Rocha, M.A., Sartori, M.G., Girao, M.J., De Jesus Simoes, M., Baracat, E.C., Histomorphometric study of the inferior urinary tract of adult female rats during the interval between castration and hormonal replacement (2003) Clin Exp Obstet Gynecol, 30 (2-3), pp. 111-116. , Rodrigues of Lima Sjoberg, I., Rylander, E., Von Schoultz, B., Menstrual variation of estrogen receptor content in vaginal tissue (1989) Gynecol Obstet Invest, 27, pp. 48-51 Hextall, A., Oestrogens and lower urinary tract function (2000) Maturitas, 36, pp. 83-92 Wehba, S., Ferreira, J.S., Grinbaum, M.L., Yoneda, V.R., Fernandes, C.E., Azevedo, L.H., Efeitos clínicos e virológicos da adminis administraçãode estrogênio percutâneo em mulheres enopausadas (1997) Reprod Clim, 12, pp. 194-196 Fraga, R., Dambros, M., Miyaoka, R., Riccetto, C.L.Z., Palma, P., Role of 17 β-estradiol on type IV collagen fibers volumetric density in the basement membrane of bladder wall (2007) Int Urogynecol J, 18, pp. 1185-1190 Hashimoto, T., Ishigooka, M., Zerman, D.H., Effects of estrogen and progesterone on urinary bladder in female rabbit: Evaluation by quantitative morphometric analysis (1999) Urology, 53, pp. 642-646 Dambros, M., Palma, P.C.R., Lacerda, M., Miyaoka, R., Netto Jr., N.R., The effect of variectomy and estradiol replacement on collagen and elastic fibers in the bladder of rats (2003) Int Urogynecol J, 14, pp. 108-112 Sato, I., Ito, A., Mori, Y., Yamashita, K., Hormonal regulation of collagenolysis in uterine cervical fibroblasts.
