Resumen
We investigated the reference values of the dorsal ulnar cutaneous nerve (DUC) sensory nerve conduction (SNC) in 66 healthy individuals. Measurements were processed using stimulating electrodes positioned between the ulnar bone and the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle, 11-13 cm proximal to the active electrode recording. Superficial recording electrodes were placed on the fourth intermetacarpal space. The mean sensory conduction velocity (SCV) in males was 63.7-0.16 × age ± 3.36 m/s and in females was 57.7 ± 3.37 m/s. The mean sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) amplitude in males was 19.5 ± 10.7 μV and in females was 24.6 ± 5.8 μV. The mean SNAP duration was 0.96 ± 0.13 ms. No significant differences regarding the DUC-SCV, distal latency, and SNAP duration or amplitude were found between both sides of the same subject. The amplitude of the SNAP was higher in females than males. The effects of age on DUC-SCV were distinct for each gender. 60 2 B 349 352 Kaplan, E.B., Variation of the ulnar nerve at the wrist (1963) Bull Hosp Joint Dis, 24, pp. 85-88 De Wulf, Razemon, J.P., Séqueles des fracture du poignet: Rapport à la société belge d'orthopédie (1968) Acta Orthop Belg, 34, pp. 118-119 Jabre, J.F., Ulnar nerve lesions at the wrist: New technique for recording from the sensory dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve (1980) Neurology, 30, pp. 873-876 Olney, R.K., Wilbourn, A.J., Miller, R.G., Ulnar neuropathy at or distal to the wrist (1983) Neurology, 33 (2 SUPPL.), p. 185 Hoffman, M.D., Mitz, M., Luisi, M., Melville, B.R., Paired study of the dorsal cutaneous ulnar and superficial radial sensory nerves (1988) Arch Phys-Med Rehabil, 69, pp. 591-594 Peterson, A.R., Giuliani, M.J., Mchugh, M., Shipe, C.C., Variations in dorsomedial hand innervation: Electrodiagnostic implications (1992) Arch Neurol, 49, pp. 870-873 Spindler, H.A., Felsenthal, G., Radial sensory conduction in the hand (1986) Arch Phys Med Rehabil, 67, pp. 821-823 Dawson, D.M., Hallet, M., Millender, L.H., Ulnar nerve entrapment at the wrist (1983) Entrapment Neuropathies, pp. 123-140. , Boston: Little, Brown & Co Shea, J.D., Mcclain, E.J., Ulnar nerve compression syndromes at and below the wrist (1969) J Bone Joint Surg, 51 A, pp. 1095-1103. , Am Olney, R.X., Hanson, M., Ulnar neuropathy at or distal to the wrist (1988) Muscle Nerve, 11, pp. 828-832 Campbell, W.W., Robinson, L.R., Deriving reference values in electrodiagnostic medicine (1993) Muscle Nerve, 16, pp. 424-428 Kimura, J., Principles and pitfalls of nerve conduction studies (1984) Ann Neurol, 16, pp. 415-429 Lang, H.A., Forsström, J., Björkqvist, S.E., Kuusela, V., Statistical variation of nerve conduction velocity (1977) J Neurol Sci, 33, pp. 229-241 Mayer, R.F., Nerve conduction studies in man (1963) Neurology, 13, pp. 1021-1030 Lascelles, R.G., Thomas, P.K., Changes due to age in internodal length in the sural nerve in man (1966) J Neurol Neurosurg Psychiatry, 29, pp. 40-44 Kemble, F., Conduction in the normal adult median nerve (1967) Electromyography, 7, pp. 275-288 Oliveira, A.L.C.R.D., (1995) Estudo do Potencial de Ação Sensitivo do Ramo Cutâneo Dorsal do Ulnar e dos Nervos Mediano e Ulnar em uma População Normal, , Tese, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo.
