Resumen
A laboratory study evaluated the influence of a dentin desensitizer (D/Sense 2) on the microtensile bond strength of two adhesive systems: a self-etching primer (Bistite II SC) and a one-bottle adhesive (Prime & Bond 2.1). Sixteen crown dentin discs were obtained from extracted sound human third molars. Dentin surfaces were ground with 600 grit silicon carbide (SiC) abrasive papers to produce a standardized smear layer. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n=4). G1-D/Sense 2 + Prime & Bond 2.1; G2-D/Sense 2 + Bistite II SC; G3- and G4-dentin surfaces were bonded with Prime & Bond 2.1 and Bistite II SC, respectively, with no previous treatment with D/Sense 2. Eight mm high resin composite crowns (TPH Spectrum) were incrementally built-up on the treated surfaces. One sample from each group was prepared for evaluation of the hybrid layer on SEM. The specimens for the microtensile test were serially sectioned perpendicular to the adhesive layer to obtain 1 mm 2 bounded sticks. Then, each stick was submitted to the microtensile test performed at a 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. One-way ANOVA and Tukey test showed statistically significant differences among the groups (p<0.05). Values in MPa were: G1-17.85; G2-9.88; G3-35.16; G4-15.57. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the D/Sense 2 desensitizer decreased the bond strength of Prime & Bond 2.1 and Bistite II SC bonding systems. © Operative Dentistry, 2002. 27 2 154 160 Barkmeier, W.W., Los, S.A., Triolo, J.R.P.T., Bond strengths and SEM evaluation of Clearfil Liner Bond 2 (1995) American Journal of Dentistry, 8 (6), pp. 289-293 Brännström, M., Aström, A., A study on the mechanism of pain elicited from the dentin (1964) Journal of Dental Research, 43 (4), pp. 219-227 Camps, J., Pizant, S., Dejou, J., Franquin, J.C., Effects of desensitizing agents on human dentin permeability (1998) American Journal of Dentistry, 11 (6), pp. 286-290 Ciucchi, B., Bouillaguet, S., Holz, J., Pashley, D., Dentinal fluid dynamics in human teeth, in vivo (1995) Journal of Endodontics, 21 (4), pp. 191-194 Graf, H., Galasse, R., Morbidity, prevalence and intraoral distribution of hypersensitive teeth (1977) Journal of Dental Research, 56 (479) Gwinnett, A.J., Quantitative contribution of resin infiltration/hybridization to dentin bonding (1993) American Journal of Dentistry, 6 (1), pp. 7-9 Hamid, A., Sutton, W., Hume, W.R., Variation in phosphoric acid concentration and treatment time and HEMA diffusion through dentin (1996) American Journal of Dentistry, 9 (5), pp. 211-214 Haveman, C.W., Charlton, D.G., Dentin treatment with an oxalate solution and glass ionomer bond strength (1994) American Journal of Dentistry, 7 (5), pp. 247-251 Jain, P., Vargas, M.A., Denehy, G.E., Boyer, D.B., Dentin desensitizing agents: SEM and X-ray microanalysis assessment (1997) American Journal of Dentistry, 10 (1), pp. 21-26 Kerns, D.G., Scheidt, M.J., Pashley, D.H., Dentinal tubule occlusion and root hypersensitivity (1991) Journal of Periodontology, 62 (7), pp. 421-428 Mausner, I.K., Goldstein, G.R., Georgescu, M., Effect of two dentinal desensitizing agents on retention of complete cast coping using four cements (1996) The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 75 (2), pp. 129-134 Nakabayashi, N., Saimi, Y., Bonding to intact dentin (1996) Journal of Dental Research, 75 (9), pp. 1706-1715 Pashley, D.H., Galloway, S.E., The effects of oxalate treatment on the smear layer of ground surfaces of human dentin (1985) Archives of Oral Biology, 30 (10), pp. 731-737 Pashley, E.L., Dentin permeability: Sealing the dentin in crown preparations (1992) Operative Dentistry, 17 (1), pp. 13-20 Pashley, E.L., Tao, L., Pashley, D., Effects of oxalate on dentin bonding (1993) American Journal of Dentistry, 6 (3), pp. 116-118 Perdigão, J., Swift Jr., E.J., Choe, B.C., Effects of etchants, surface moisture and resin composite on dentin bond strength (1993) American Journal of Dentistry, 6 (2), pp. 61-64 Pereira, G.D.S., Paulillo, L.A.M.S., Influence of dentin moisture on adhesive system's shear bond strength (2000) Journal of Dental Research, 79 (2392), p. 442 Peres, C.R., Salgado, L.P.S., Sérgio, P.P., Júnior, R.H., Hiperestesia dentinária: Etiologia, diagnóstico e forma de tratamento (1999) Revista Brasileira de Odontologia, 56 (5), pp. 204-207 Santini, A., Mitchell, S., Effect of wet and dry bonding techniques on marginal leakage (1998) American Journal of Dentistry, 11 (5), pp. 219-224 Schüpbach, P., Lutz, F., Finger, W.J., Closing of dental tubules by Gluma desensitizer (1997) European Journal of Oral Science, 105 (5 P AND 1), pp. 414-421 Tagami, J., Tao, L., Pashley, D.H., Correlation among dentin depth, permeability and bond strength of adhesive resins (1990) Dental Materials, 6 (1), pp. 45-50 Titley, K., Penetration of a dentin bonding agent into dentin (1994) American Journal of Dentistry, 7 (4), pp. 190-194 Villa, L.A.C., Cardoso, R.H., Lascala, N.T., Estudo clínico do tratamento de retrações gengivais localizadas (1995) Revista Da Associação Paulista de Cirurgiões-Dentistas, 19 (2), pp. 137-141
