Resumen
The aim of this study was to compare different treatments for dentin hypersensitivity in a 6-month follow-up. One hundred and one teeth exhibiting non carious cervical lesions were selected. The assessment method used to quantify sensitivity was the cold air syringe, recorded by the visual analogue scale (VAS), prior to treatment (baseline), immediately after topical treatment, after 1 week, 1, 3 and 6 months. Teeth were randomly assigned to five groups (n = 20): G1: Gluma Desensitizer (GD); G2: Seal&Protect (SP); G3: Oxa-gel (OG); G4: Fluoride (F); G5: Low intensity laser-LILT (660 nm/3.8 J/cm2/15 mW). Analysis was based on the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test that demonstrated statistical differences immediately after the treatment (p = 0.0165). To observe the individual effects of each treatment, data was submitted to Friedman test. It was observed that GD and SP showed immediate effect after application. Reduction in the pain level throughout the six-month follow-up was also observed. In contrast, LILT presented a gradual reduction of hypersensitivity. OG and F showed effects as of the first and third month respectively. It can be concluded that, after the 6-month clinical evaluation, all therapies showed lower VAS sensitivity values compared with baseline, independently of their different modes of action. 23 3 333 339 Addy, M., Urquhart, E., Dentine hypersensitivity: its prevalence, aetiology and clinical management (1992) Dent Update, 19 (10), pp. 407-408. , 410-2 Walters, P.A., Dentinal hypersensitivity: a review (2005) J Contemp Dent Pract, 6 (2), pp. 107-117 Consensus-based recommendations for the diagnosis and management of dentin hypersensitivity (2003) J Can Dent Assoc, 69 (4), pp. 221-228. , Canadian Advisory Board on Dentin Hypersensitivity Chabanski, M.B., Gillam, D.G., Etiology, prevalence and clinical features of cervical dentin sensitivity (1997) J Oral Rehabil, 24 (9), pp. 15-19 Yoshiyama, A.M., Suge, T., Kawasaki, A., Ebisu, S., Morphological characterization of tubule-like structures in hypersensitive human radicular dentin (1996) J Dent, 24 (1-2), pp. 57-63 Kakaboura, A., Rahiotis, C., Thomaidis, S., Doukoudakis, S., Clinical effectiveness of two agents on the treatment of tooth cervical hypersensitivity (2005) Am J Dent, 18 (4), pp. 291-295 Olusile, A.O., Bamise, C.T., Oginni, A.O., Dosumu, O.O., Short-term clinical evaluation of four desensitizing agents (2008) J Contemp Dent Pract, 9 (1), pp. 22-29 Pamir, T., Dalgar, H., Onal, B., Clinical evaluation of three desensitizing agents in relieving dentin hypersensitivity (2007) Oper Dent, 32 (6), pp. 544-548 Clarck, G.E., Troullos, E.S., Designing hypersensitivity clinical studies (1990) Dent Clin North Am, 34 (3), pp. 531-544 Brännström, M., Sensitivity of dentin (1966) Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol, 21 (4), pp. 517-527 Gillam, D.G., Mechanisms of stimulus transmission across dentin -
