Resumen
The pathogenesis of secretory media otitis (SMO) is multifactorial, including bacterial etiology. The aim of this study is to compare the responses of the children treated with cotrimoxazole with or without corticotherapy and those treated by placebo. Forty patients received placebo: and 108, cotrimoxazole with or without prednison. Fifty six point six per cent with drugs therapy healed and 5% of the group with placebo showed cure. We did the follow up this healed patients from 8 months and 17,5% of them presented SMO again. The authors discuss the validity of the clinic treatment before surgery, mainly when the patients did not present a severe hearing loss. We must be attempt to the possibility of temporary cure and so we advise to follow up the patients submitted to this kind of treatment. 63 2 116 119
