Resumen
The central nervous system demyelinating diseases are a group of disorders with different etiologies, characterized by inflammatory lesions that are associated with loss of myelin and eventually axonal damage. In this group the most studied ones are multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optic (NMO) and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). The cerebrospinal fluid is essential to differentiate between these different syndromes and to define multiple sclerosis, helping to assess the probability of Clinical Isolated Syndrome turn into multiple sclerosis. 71 9 B 685 688 Wekerle, H., Lassmann, H., The immunology of inflammatory demyelinating disease (2006) McAlpine's Multiple Sclerosis, pp. 547-555. , In: Confavreux C, Lassmann H, McDonald I, Miller D, Noseworthy J, Smith K, Wekerle H (Eds), London Ross, A., Strategies for optimal disease management, adherence, and outcomes in multiple sclerosis patients (2008) Neurology, 71 (SUPPL. 3), pp. S1-S2 Hauser, S.L., Multiple lessons for multiple sclerosis (2008) N Engl J Med, 359, pp. 1838-1841 Compston, A., Coles, A., Multiple sclerosis (2008) Lancet, 372, pp. 1502-1515 Ramagopalan, S.V., Dobson, R., Meier, U.C., Giovannoni, G., Multiple sclerosis: Risk factors, prodromes, and potential causal pathways (2010) Lancet Neurol, 9, pp. 727-739 Antel, J., Bar-Or, A., Roles of immunoglobulins and B cells in multiple sclerosis: From pathogenesis to treatment (2006) J Neuroimmunol, 180, pp. 3-8 Freedman, M.S., Thompson, E.J., Deisenhammer, F., Recommended standard of cerebrospinal fluid analysis in the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (2005) Arch Neurol, 62, pp. 865-870 Correale, J., Molinas, M.M.B., Oligoclonal bands and antibody responses in multiple sclerosis (2002) J Neurol, 249, pp. 375-389 Bergamaschi, R., Tonietti, S., Franciotta, D., Oligoclonal bands in Devic's neuromyelitis optica and multiple sclerosis: Differences in repeated cerebrospinal fluid examinations (2004) MultScler, 10, pp. 2-4 Calabresi, P.A., Cortese, I., Inflammatory and demyelinating disorders (2009) Cerebrospinal fluid in clinical practice, pp. 209-223. , In: David N Irani (Ed), Philadelphia, Ed.
