This study aimed at developing and validating the Brazilian version of Hackman and Oldham's Job Diagnostic Survey. The process of translation and cultural adaptation of this instrument followed the procedure adopted by the World Health Organization Quality of Life assessment instrument-WHOQOL. Significant values of Cronbach's alpha were found for all dimensions evaluated. Regarding the criteria validity, significant correlations were found between all dimensions. As for the concurrent validity, it was inferred that the correlation between the average of the dimensions of the Job Diagnostic Survey and the total score of the assessment instrument of the Walton's Quality of work Life model was significant. The test-retest reliability showed that there was no significant variation in the dimensions, and that the correlation coefficient between both applications was significant in all dimensions evaluated. The Brazilian version of the Hackman and Oldham's Job Diagnostic Survey was validated and presented good psychometric properties and kept the instrument original features.
