Resumen
Introduction: The authors present a review article on memory aspects of temporal lobe epilepsy in childhood. Methods: We performed a search in the literature. Results: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in childhood present with great clinical, electroencephalographic and etiological diversity. The neuropsychological features in children with TLE are not well-defined yet. The relationship between the lateralization of the lesion and performance on memory tests is not established. Conclusion: The studies performed in children with TLE show controversy data. This finding may be due to the etiological, clinical and electroencephalographic diversity seen in such group of children. Besides, most studies use different assessments. Therefore, it is clear that more studies are necessary to elucidate which neuropsychological deficits occur in children with TLE. 12 1 22 25 Novelly, R., Augustine, E.A., Mattson, R.H., Glaser, G.H., Willimson, P.D., Spencer, D.D., Spencer, S.S., Selective memory improvement and impairment in temporal lobectomy for epilepsy (1984) Annals of Neurology, 15 (1), pp. 64-67 Hermann, B., Seidenberg, M., Schoenfeld, J., Davies, K., Neuropsychological characteristics of the syndrome of mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (1997) Arch Neurol, 54, pp. 369-376 Milner, B., Branch, C., Rasmussen, T., Study of short-term memory after intracarotid injection of sodium amytal (1962) Tans Am Neurol Ass, 87, pp. 224-226 Jones-Gotman, M., Localization of lesions by neuropsychological testing (1991) Epilepsia, 32 (SUPPL. 5), pp. 41-52 Malec, J.F., Ivnik, R.J., Hinkeldey, N.S., Visual spatial learning test (1991) J Consult Clin Psychol Assess, 3, pp. 82-88 Oxbury, J., Oxbury, S.M., Neuropsychology: Memory and hippocampal pathology (1989) The Bridge Between Neurology and Psychiatry, pp. 135-150. , Reynolds EG, Trimble MR, editors, Edinburg: Churgill Livingstone; Jones-Gotman M.
