In this work, a metallic composite was obtained by using aluminum powder as matrix and industrialized alumino-silicate fibers or mineral silica fibers as reinforcement. Techniques of powder metallurgy were used with cold uniaxial pressing and hot extrusion. The samples obtained in both processes were heat treated at 600°C to promote a reaction between the silica present into fibers composition and the aluminum matrix. A co-continuous microstructure was obtained on the fibers surface as a result of this reaction by the transformation of its original composition in an interconnected layer of Al2O3 and Al-Si alloy. This procedure promoved a strong interfatial bonding between the fibers and the matrix and in the case of hot extruded samples, the ultimate tensile strength was higher than that for similar composites obtained by the use of SiC of NbC as reinforcement. 189-191
