Resumen
Epilepsy is a chronic neurological condition that affects the behavior and the patient's well-being. The parents experiment the first impact when in the contact with an epilepsy's diagnosis: the child changes their "normal status" to be an "epileptic child", causing more concern than the own epileptic seizures, because of the presence of stigma. In this context, the Psychology works with support groups for parents. These groups focus the interpersonal relationships and the treatment of problems and difficulties, using procedures through parents modify the interaction with your children, through more effective behaviors, improving the quality of the family relationships and promoting a better adjustment to the disease. The groups have an objective to give information, understand the children's reactions in the seizures, as well as to discuss the fears, anxiety and the parents' confusions regarding the infantile epilepsy. The group is an opportunity to share ideas, to express feelings and to exchange experiences with other people that live similar situations. In these groups the parents can increase your knowledge, cry, feel fear and discuss discomforts related to the disease. This group intervention has a potential fort to provide well-being, reducing the parents' anxiety, helping them to deal with your children and promote the better child's adjustment. 9 4 255 259 Guerreiro, C.A.M., Guerreiro, M.M., (1999) Epilepsia: O paciente otimamente controlado, , São Paulo: Lemos;, 83p Palmini, A., Costa, J.C., Introdução à epileptologia clínica e classificação das epilepsias e crises epilépticas (1998) Fundamentos neurobiológicos das epilepsias: Aspectos clínicos e cirúrgicos, pp. 149-161. , Costa JC, Palmini A, Yacubian EMT, Cavalheiro EA, eds, São Paulo: Lemos; Jacoby, A., Epilepsy and the quality of everyday life: Findings from a study of people with well-controlled epilepsy (1992) Soc Sci Med, 34 (6), pp. 657-666 Fernandes, P.T., Souza, E.A.P., Identification of family variables in parent's groups of children with epilepsy (2001) Arquivos de Neuropsiquiatria, 59 (4), pp. 854-858 Fernandes, P.T., Souza, E.A.P., Procedimento educativo na epilepsia infantil (2001) Estudos de Psicologia, 6 (1), pp. 115-120 Souza, E.A.P., Guerreiro, M.M., Guerreiro, C.A.M., Qualidade de vida e epilepsia (2000) Epilepsia, pp. 223-229. , Guerreiro CAM, Guerreiro MM, Cendes F, Lopes-Cendes I, eds, 3a ed.
